Open Source Hardware Association (開放源碼硬體協會，OSHA) 於 2012 年 8 月 2 日在其官方網站發布「An Important Question on the Open Source Hardware Mark」一則消息，指出 Open Source Initiative (開放源碼促進會，OSI) 告知 OSHA，認為 OSHA 的「齒輪」圖案侵犯了 OSI 的商標權。

The current leadership of the Open Source Initiative (OSI, opensource.org) has brought to our attention that they feel the Open Source Hardware ‘gear’ logo infringes on their trademark.

目前 OSHA 有考慮三種處理方式：

  1. 向 OSI 取得商標授權 (License the open source hardware ‘gear’ logo from OSI)。
  2. 違背 OSI 的意願並繼續延用原商標 (Continue to recommend the use of the ‘gear’ logo against OSI’s wishes)。
  3. 以眾包的方式設計新的 OSHA 圖示 (Crowdsource a new logo to represent Open Source Hardware)。
